Coffee Table to Bench

We needed a bench for the bedroom where Mister can relax while getting dressed – his words not mine. I could not find benches under $200 (my budget) so I opted for the $25 option. Yes this was only $25 excluding paint, sweat and tears. There were no tears really just lots of excitement.

I got fabric at $3.99 a yard from Home Fabrics. This store is amazing!!! There is one by me so I get to actually dig through the back of the store. The front store fabrics are between $12.99 – $ 6.99 which is a much better deal than Hobby Lobby or Joanns.

Now the project!

  1. Wow, what a great find and makeover! Did you secure the foam batting on the bench? Can’t wait to read more of your blog and I am now a follower!

    • Hi Grace – I didn’t secure it – I just placed it right and secured the batting and fabric. I am making some headboards and will secure them because they will be vertical

  2. Just stumbled across this post. First of all great job. It looks fantabulous.

Quick question. Did you simply spray paint the coffee table?

Thanks. I am thinking I am going to “borrow” your idea. If I do, I’ll give the credit to you.

    • Hi Kristian – I didn’t spray paint. I used some leftover black Bher paint I had. I just made sure it dried between the two coats. Good luck with your project, cant wait to see what you come up with!

  3. Hi — I saw this on DIY showoff and am excited to try my own. I’ve even found a 14 dollar coffee table at the thrift store that I’m going to snag tomorrow (thursday is 25% off day!). But I have a question — I’m assuming that you attached the foam and batting to the plywood and upholstered it to make the seat, but did you attach the seat to the table? If you didn’t, is it “slippy” when you sit on it? i want to make a bench for my reading nook….

    Thanks for any insight!

    • I secured it using flat screws that were about 1.5 inches. I put them from the underside coming up, I have 6 of those …hope that makes sense?
Yes these are really cheap in my area, I might make a few and re-sell since they are so easy
